Who doesn't love a bright, citrusy cocktails, especially with grapefruit - sweet, sour, and bitter all at the same time. However, sometimes to get all the grapefruit flavor you want from juice, it’s just too acidic. That’s where Grapefruit Bitters come in, tons of grapefruit flavor but without the acid. A few dashes will brighten up any cocktail like a squeeze of juice will, but you don’t have to worry about having a grapefruit on hand or adding too much acidity to your drink.
We’ve highlighted the floral notes of grapefruit with the addition of hops and then balanced that out with earthy ginger, and rich honey. Grapefruit Bitters are our only bitters sweetened with honey.

Part Aperol Spritz, part Mimosa this spritz makes a great brunch drink, but it also lovely on a warm afternoon. Make yourself a pitcher and share with friends.
- 1 oz Aperol
- 1.5 oz grapefruit juice
- 3 oz prosecco
- 4-6 dashes The Bitter Housewife Grapefruit Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a collins glass, stir gently to mix, and fill the glass with ice
Pleasant and sweet... with just a hint of bitterness. This super refreshing spritzer is a crowd pleaser, often winning over even those who don't really like grapefruit. It's crisp and refreshing, not too sweet and not too bitter and the low alcohol means it won't go straight to your head.
- 3 oz Lillet Blanc
- 3 oz soda water
- 1 tsp The Bitter Housewife Grapefruit Bitters
Pour all ingredients into a wine glass and stir. Enjoy!
Averna is one of my go-to amaros, especially for drinking on it's own. The addition of grapefruit bitters to this simple spritz changes everything. Taste it for yourself.
- 2 oz Averna
- 3 oz soda water
- 3-4 dashes The Bitter Housewife Grapefruit Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a highball glass with ice, stir gently to mix, and garnish with grapefruit twist.
Goes great with gin, vodka, and tequila as well as wine-spritzers, champagne cocktails, and floral aperitifs like Lillet, St. Germain, or classic dry vermouth.
