Harry A. Rich

Rich’s paintings are grandchildren of The New York School. They strive to build on that explosive heritage while remaining within the porous borders of Modernism. In the studio he works principally on the margins of what he knows about painting and paint, searching for the ‘not known’. Non-representational and abstract painting, unfettered with literal images, on a good day may become a carrier of emotion and small joys. It may even evoke the unique aesthetic, poetic or meditative capacities of viewers. In the studio, in the murk of the discovery process, never certain how to let paint on canvas achieve those things… well, that’s his engine.
